Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Fall National Park also known as Kabalega Falls, lies at the northern end of Albertine Rift Valley.

It became one of Uganda’s first national parks in 1952. The Park is divided by Victoria Nile which falls over rift valley wall creating Murchison Falls, the dominant feature in the park. The falls transforms into a stream that flows across the rift valley floor into Lake Albert. Murchison Falls is populated by over 500 birds species such as the red winged gray warbler. It is also populated by a great number of elephants, giraffes, buffalos, Nile crocodiles and hippos. “The African Queen” a 1951 film starring Humphrey bogart was filmed in the park along Lake Albert and the Nile. Notable visitors include Winston Churchill, Ernest Hemingway and Theodore Roosevelt.
