Mount Meru

Mount Meru is a dominant stratovolcano located 70km west of Kilimanjaro, north of Arusha city.

It Is the second highest mountain in Tanzania after Mt Kilimanjaro and was formed after the formation of the great rift valley. The mountain got its shape after a gigantic explosion. Mt Meru’s Lava is alkaline in nature. Mt Meru is an active volcanic mountain and had a minor eruption in 1910. The mountain has fertile slopes that support forest cover that hosts various wildlife including monkeys and leopards.
