Mount Kilimanjaro

205 miles from the equator lies Mt Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa and the largest free-standing mountain in the world.

The mountain is made up of ash, lava and rocks thus also called a stratovolcano. Mt Kilimanjaro has three cones: Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. Kibo is the tallest of the three.  Mawenzi and Shira are considered extinct whereas Kibo, the highest point is dormant meaning it could possibly erupt again. There are five major climate zones on the mountain bushland, rainforest, Heath/moorland, Alpine desert zone and arctic zone. Local and international tourists who go for treks and hiking on the mountain get the chance to see wildlife like Jacksons chameleon, Colobus monkey, bush baby, duiker marsh and mongoose.
