Lake Eyasi

Lake Eyasi is a seasonal shallow endorheic Salt Lake on the floor of the great rift valley and the largest water body in the Arusha area.

During the dry season the lake dries up almost entirely especially in the drier areas but in rainy seasons it may flood its banks and attract hippos from the Serengeti as well as flamingos. Other bird species seen around the lake include Fischers lovebirds, pelican, spurfowl, stork, barbet and weaver. The indigenous habitats of the lake are the Hadza people. They are indigenous ethnic hunters and gatherers found along the perimeter and along the Serengeti which is the Maasai territory. The Hadza live in caves and don’t wear any kind of clothes but animal skin.
